Josh Barnett og Ben Rothwell møtes 30. januar i New Jersey.
A heavyweight matchup between top contenders Josh Barnett (34-7 MMA, 6-2 UFC) and Ben Rothwell (35-9 MMA, 5-3 UFC) has been added to January’s UFC on FOX 18 event.
The matchup was announced on Tuesday night on “FOX Sports Live.”
Rothwell is currently ranked No. 7 in the latest NOS Energy Drink MMA heavyweight rankings, while Barnett sits at No. 9.
Featuring a light heavyweight matchup between Anthony Johnson and Ryan Bader, UFC on FOX 18 takes place Jan. 30 at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. The evening’s main card airs on FOX following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
Barnett, 38, is a former UFC heavyweight champion. “The Warmaster” fought most recently in September, earning a five-round, unanimous decision win over Roy Nelson in Japan.
Meanwhile, Rothwell fought most recently in June, scoring an impressive first-round submission over Matt Mitrione. He was scheduled to face Stipe Miocic in October, but injury forced Miocic out of the fight less than two weeks before the fight, and the matchup was scrapped. Rothwell has been campaigning for a big fight since that time, and UFC officials granted his request
